Enhancing Royal Canadian Mounted Police Accountability Act
Posted by The Canada Sentinel
Ottawa, ON – Royal Canadian Mounted Police
Today, the Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, announced the coming into force of the Enhancing Royal Canadian Mounted Police Accountability Act (Accountability Act). This marks a significant milestone for the RCMP, bringing into force much needed amendments to the nearly 30-year-old Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act (RCMP Act).
These amendments will enhance RCMP accountability to the Canadian public, as well as modernize and strengthen the RCMP’s human resources management processes, including conduct management, harassment investigation and resolution, employment requirements, and appeals and grievances.
To ensure successful implementation, numerous programs, policies and procedures have been developed, and updated. These changes will allow workplace issues to be resolved quickly, at the lowest possible level, allowing the RCMP to be more responsive to the needs and expectations of Canadians, stakeholders and its employees. “The coming into force of the Enhancing Royal Canadian Mounted Police Accountability Act gives us the tools we need to address workplace issues quickly and justly, allowing us to focus our attention on what we do best, protecting Canadians.”-Commissioner Bob Paulson, Royal Canadian Mounted Police
